The New Multi-Touch SMART Board - (20-10-2010)

I clearly cannot claim to call myself an expert on the use of SMART Technologies' products without devoting some space to the new multi-touch SMART Board! I am sooo excited for this new product to FINALLY be unveiled to the public and am stoked to imagine the possibilities this can bring to the classroom.

I've always loved SMART Boards, and the collaborative activities that can be done with a small group on the boards, but this just kicked the potential up a notch! As our society moves more and more towards multi-touch technology in our daily lives (iPads, anyone?), I am so happy that SMART has been working on keeping up with these trends. Kids especially are starting expect to be able to touch and explore numerous technologies and the new SMART Board 800 series addresses this.

As always, feel free to contact us if you're interested!  We're a Canadian national AV company that's been around since 1923, and we'd be more than happy to help you with any of your requests!

<end of selfish sales pitch> LOL

But seriously, I'm super pumped to get to work on new multi-touch activities for the classroom and so happy for my teacher colleagues who will get to increase the amount of exploration and multi-user creation in their classes!

Do you have a basic troubleshooting guide on how to turn on and correct common problems with multi-touch on SmartBoards.

Would love to see how multi touch apps like PhysicsBox games (I beleive this is the work from University of Calgary) works on this. Really concerned of the lagging shown.

How about a single teacher/student using this to move multiple objects simultaneously such as for counting and sorting and demonstrating interactions of two or more objects? Can't wait to see what teachers would come up with this application.

Wow, that is a lot of lag. Not quite like an iPad then.

Does anyone know how many multitouch points are recognised at once? Is it 10 like the iPad?

A classroom educator for 10 years, I’m now thrilled to be working full time training teachers and helping them integrate technology into their classrooms.

Originally from Calgary, I’m thrilled to be living and working in British Columbia and starting to get to know the fabulous educators in my new province.

I fully confess that I am a tech-geek, and thus always brought technology into the classroom with my students. As soon as I got my hands on my first SMART product – I was a convert – and never taught without one again! I was fortunate to be part of several technical trials with SMART – including the SMART Table, which I enjoyed using primarily with my Grade One students.

I spent some time as an Education Technology Consultant and developed my passion for bringing technology into the hands of kids & helping teachers to maximize the tech tools within their schools.

I also love sports, movies and am a classically trained singer.
