Fresh Look Fridays -- Select a Stamp - (30-04-2010)

Today's Fresh Look Fridays website focuses on a great educational game called "Select a Stamp".  It's put on by the BBC (which, by the way, publishes TONS of cool, interactive websites that are perfect for use on a SMART Board).

Students are first asked to measure and record the parcel's length, then weigh and record the parcel's weight -- all in metric! (sorry American friends!)  At that point, they must proceed to the postage area where they have to select a stamp from a grid based on the length and weight of the parcel.  Unfortunately, this uses British currency, but the concept and skill of selecting information from a chart is still extremely useful nonetheless.

What a great little Math game for upper elementary students to play.  It works really well when used as a small group challenge on your SMART Board (when the board is used as one centre in your classroom).

Originally from Calgary, I’m thrilled to be living and working in British Columbia and starting to get to know the fabulous educators in my new province.

I fully confess that I am a tech-geek, and thus always brought technology into the classroom with my students. As soon as I got my hands on my first SMART product – I was a convert – and never taught without one again! I was fortunate to be part of several technical trials with SMART – including the SMART Table, which I enjoyed using primarily with my Grade One students.

I spent some time as an Education Technology Consultant and developed my passion for bringing technology into the hands of kids & helping teachers to maximize the tech tools within their schools.

I also love sports, movies and am a classically trained singer.
