Changing SMART Response Clickers - (06-04-2011)

Obviously, my role as an Education Consultant requires quite a bit of traveling and a LOT of adapting to the variety of platforms that schools are using.  Who knew that on top of becoming an expert on SMART products, that I'd also become an expert on the myriad of Mac operating systems, Windows XP vs Windows 7 vs. Windows Vista, installation of software as well as the 18 different versions of SMART Notebook, Response, Senteo (?!?) and Table Toolkit that schools are using.

Whew! I'm almost semi-qualified to apply for an IT position!

One area of variety -- SMART Response clickers -- often impacts teachers in my workshops.  Sometimes, the same teacher is using a different type of clicker based on the different types of students they teach in a day; other times, we discover that having the improper clicker selected in their setup is the culprit behind why they're not "seeing the same options" that I am on my screen.

And so, ladies and gentlemen, I offer you a quick how-to session on this important topic.

Step 1: Close SMART Notebook and SMART Response Teacher Tools (if you already have them open)

Step 2: Open the SMART Respponse Setup Tool SMART_Response_setup_tool

     Windows: Start Menu
                   Programs
                   SMART Technologies folder
                   SMART Response folder
                   Setup Tool

     Mac: Finder
            Applications
            SMART Response folder

Step 3: Choose the appropriate clicker from the list provided.  Depending on the version of SMART Response that you have loaded, you may not see the exact same options that I have.

Hopefully this helps some of you out! The nice thing about this is that once you've identified which clicker you'd like the students to use, the teacher options will change accordingly.  For example, if you select SMART Response XE, you'll automatically get access to the equation editor in Notebook when inserting a Math problem.

Happy clicking!

Vanessa

A classroom educator for 10 years, I’m now thrilled to be working full time training teachers and helping them integrate technology into their classrooms.

Originally from Calgary, I’m thrilled to be living and working in British Columbia and starting to get to know the fabulous educators in my new province.

I fully confess that I am a tech-geek, and thus always brought technology into the classroom with my students. As soon as I got my hands on my first SMART product – I was a convert – and never taught without one again! I was fortunate to be part of several technical trials with SMART – including the SMART Table, which I enjoyed using primarily with my Grade One students.

I spent some time as an Education Technology Consultant and developed my passion for bringing technology into the hands of kids & helping teachers to maximize the tech tools within their schools.

I also love sports, movies and am a classically trained singer.
