ATLE 2012 From Afar - (19-11-2012)

As most of you know, I've abandoned Western Canada for the center of the universe (aka Toronto).  Don't worry western peeps - it's a temporary move and I'll be back out there sometime in the future.  You can all release that breath you've been holding.

While there are definitely perks to setting up residence out here (read: all the Brett Lawrie and JP Arencibia games...er...Blue Jays games you can handle), it means that I miss out on some of the fun stuff that my counterparts back in Calgary and Edmonton get to go to.  ATLE is one of them.

Luckily, we live in an ever connected world where the minute someone speaks with an air of wisdom their quote immediately becomes immortalized in the Twitterverse.  As such, I was able to peek in and out of the conference whenever my little guy would let me get 2 minutes at the computer or my phone.  Since ATLE is always full of amazing tidbits and new catch phrases, I thought I'd highlight the snippets that I found impressive.

**Side bar** Please do not be offended if your brilliance either as a presenter or tweeter did not make it into my list below.  I had to zip on and off of Twitter numerous times and I couldn't possibly keep up with everything that was going on there. :)

Awesome Resources:

- Check out this Google Doc for some accessibility resources courtesy of Nicole Lakusta. (thanks to Richard Swandel for sending out the tweet that caught my eye!)

- Interested in the concept of a flipped classroom? Click here to see a powerpoint file that Patrick Bohnet uploaded for all of us to view.  Thanks for sharing, Pat!

- Thanks to James Aitchison for taking such complete notes! See what he found interesting at ATLE here.

Interesting Websites

So many amazing things I learned just by checking in on Twitter here and there.  I can only imagine how valuable the experience in person was!

A classroom educator for 10 years, I’m now thrilled to be working full time training teachers and helping them integrate technology into their classrooms.

Originally from Calgary, I’m thrilled to be living and working in British Columbia and starting to get to know the fabulous educators in my new province.

I fully confess that I am a tech-geek, and thus always brought technology into the classroom with my students. As soon as I got my hands on my first SMART product – I was a convert – and never taught without one again! I was fortunate to be part of several technical trials with SMART – including the SMART Table, which I enjoyed using primarily with my Grade One students.

I spent some time as an Education Technology Consultant and developed my passion for bringing technology into the hands of kids & helping teachers to maximize the tech tools within their schools.

I also love sports, movies and am a classically trained singer.
